Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Reportedly Outsold GTA 6 in First-Day Amazon Brazil Boxed Pre-Orders

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has reportedly beaten Grand Theft Auto VI in first-day boxed pre-orders on Amazon Brazil, giving Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 remake an unexpected early victory over Rockstar’s massive release.

The comparison was reported on September 16, 2026, after Brazilian outlet Flow Games said Amazon Brazil directly confirmed that Ocarina of Time sold more units during its first day of pre-orders than GTA 6 did during its own first day on the retailer. Multiple Brazilian gaming outlets have since repeated the information, citing the same Amazon confirmation reported by Flow Games.

However, the result needs important context. This is not evidence that Zelda is outselling GTA 6 overall, and Amazon has not publicly released the actual unit totals. The comparison is specifically between each game’s opening day of boxed pre-orders on Amazon Brazil.

There is also a major difference between what buyers actually receive. Ocarina of Time is being sold as a traditional physical Nintendo Switch 2 release, while Rockstar has officially confirmed that GTA 6’s boxed version contains only a download code and no game disc.

Ocarina of Time Beat GTA 6 on Their Respective First Days at Amazon Brazil

According to the information attributed to Amazon Brazil, the Switch 2 remake recorded more pre-orders than GTA 6 when comparing the first 24 hours of availability for each title on Amazon Brazil.

That immediately attracted attention because GTA 6 is widely expected to become one of the biggest entertainment launches of the year.

No absolute figures have been disclosed, meaning there is currently no public number showing exactly how many copies of either game were ordered.

That distinction is important.

The claim does not mean Ocarina of Time has generated more total pre-orders across Brazil, nor does it include purchases made through the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop, Rockstar Store or other retailers.

It only reflects a specific retail comparison from Amazon Brazil.

Zelda Has a Real Physical Cartridge — GTA 6 Does Not Have a Disc

One of the clearest explanations for the result may be the difference between the two boxed products.

Nintendo’s official U.S. store lists The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition, alongside the digital version. The remake launches on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Switch 2.

GTA 6 is very different.

Rockstar officially describes its boxed version as “Physical (Code-in-Box)” and explicitly states that a disc will not be included. Buyers receive a download code inside the case instead.

Rockstar says the decision allows physical-version buyers to access the game’s pre-load beginning on November 12, one week before GTA 6 launches on November 19.

For collectors, however, that means GTA 6’s boxed version does not function like a traditional physical copy.

That difference could help explain why players interested specifically in physical ownership have shown stronger urgency around Zelda.

Ocarina of Time’s First Physical Print Is Also Targeting Collectors

Demand for Ocarina of Time’s physical edition may have received another boost from Nintendo’s decision to make the initial print run more collectible.

The first physical copies are being sold with limited-time textured foil packaging, making early units more desirable to collectors. Retail availability has already become limited in several markets, with some stores selling through their initial allocations.

That creates an obvious reason to pre-order immediately.

A player planning to buy GTA 6 digitally has little reason to purchase its code-in-box version from Amazon, particularly when the same game can be downloaded directly through PlayStation or Xbox.

A Zelda collector, on the other hand, risks missing a limited physical package by waiting.

A Similar Pattern Has Already Appeared at a Spanish Retailer

Amazon Brazil is not the only retailer where Ocarina of Time’s physical release appears to be generating disproportionately strong interest.

Spanish retailer Wakkap reportedly said it had received approximately 120 Ocarina of Time physical pre-orders for every one boxed GTA 6 pre-order during the opening period.

That figure is extremely striking, but it also requires the same caution.

Wakkap did not disclose the underlying unit totals, and its ratio represents only customers at that individual store. It cannot be used as evidence that Zelda is outselling GTA 6 throughout Spain or globally.

Still, seeing similar behavior at retailers in different countries adds fuel to the ongoing discussion about consumer demand for true physical game ownership.

This Does Not Mean Zelda Will Outsell GTA 6 Overall

The most important point is that these numbers do not represent total demand for either game.

GTA 6 is available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while Ocarina of Time is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. Rockstar also sells GTA 6 directly through digital storefronts, where buyers can pre-load the game ahead of launch.

Many GTA 6 buyers may therefore have little reason to order a physical-style box from Amazon.

GTA 6 also has multiple editions, including its Ultimate Edition, while Rockstar’s own store and console storefronts serve as major sales channels.

The Amazon Brazil result is better understood as an indication of how strongly collectors are responding to Zelda’s genuine physical release rather than evidence that one game has greater overall market demand.

Physical Ownership Has Become a Major Talking Point in 2026

The unusual comparison comes during a wider debate about the future of physical games.

Publishers have increasingly experimented with boxes containing download codes, game-key cards and other formats that provide physical packaging without the complete game stored on a disc or cartridge.

Ocarina of Time represents the opposite approach.

Nintendo is offering a conventional physical version of one of its most celebrated games at the same time Rockstar is selling GTA 6’s boxed edition without a disc.

That contrast has turned what might normally have been a simple retailer statistic into a much larger conversation about game preservation, ownership and collector value.

The Amazon Brazil result does not settle that debate, but it provides a notable example of how buying behavior can change when consumers perceive one product as more collectible than another.

The comparison is even more interesting because the two games are launching extremely close together.

Nintendo describes the remake as a complete reconstruction of the 1998 classic, featuring redesigned visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, updated controls and modern camera movement.

Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, exactly two weeks later, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The two releases target different audiences and hardware, but their proximity has already made November one of the most closely watched release windows of 2026.

For now, Zelda has managed one surprising milestone: on Amazon Brazil, its boxed edition reportedly generated more first-day pre-orders than GTA 6’s boxed code version.

That does not make Link the overall sales winner — but it does show that physical ownership can still have considerable power.
